The monastery has two guest houses with kitchens: St. Macrina's guest house for lay pilgrims and St. Bridget's guest house for clergy and their families. To arrange a stay, please call the monastery. Food and linens are provided at no charge; donations accepted. Guests are welcome to join the sisters in church for the daily cycle of services.
The monastery is located on PA Route 488 between Portersville and Ellwood City, off Exit 28 of Interstate 79, about one hour north of Pittsburgh.
The Monastery of the Transfiguration was founded in 1967 by Mother Alexandra of blessed memory, the former Princess Ileana of Romania. There are eleven monastics in residence.
The monastery publishes a journal called "Life Transfigured (A Journal of Orthodox Nuns)". The journal is sent to interested subscribers free of charge. To receive the journal, please write or call the monastery.
